THE PAUL M. CASSAR MEMORIAL LECTURE

On 21 March, Rev. Prof. Jonathan Farrugia was invited to deliver the Paul M. Cassar Memorial Lecture at Teatru Astra, Gozo. This annual lecture honours the founder of the theatre and celebrates the intersection of culture and scholarship.

His lecture, entitled ‘When the Church Met the Stage: Spectacle, Passion and Truth in Early Christianity,’ explored the (often critical) responses of the Church Fathers to the pagan theatre of their time, shedding light on early Christian attitudes towards performance and spectacle.
