TEATRU ASTRA ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR SISTER ACT MUSICAL
We’re getting in on the act! For the fifth year running the Teatru Astra is proud to present an all-singing, all-dancing super musical. And we want YOU to be part of the SISTER ACT.
Sister Act is the feel-amazing musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony and 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty And The Beast, Little Shop Of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical. And is about to be revived on the West End next year!
THE STORY
When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in one place the cops are sure she won’t be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.
Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, SISTER ACT will leave audiences breathless. The cast is chock full of amazing roles for women of all ages making this a perfect choice for high schools and community theatres. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, SISTER ACT is reason to REJOICE!
THE CREATIVE TEAM
Once more Teatru Astra has engaged the talents of Mro. Sigmund Mifsud as Musical Director, Mariella Spiteri Cefai as Vocal Coach, Francesco Nicodeme is in charge of the disco moves and Chris Gatt will take on directing duties.
PERFORMANCE DATES
Opening night is 17 March 2020 with one show daily till the 21 March
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will be held in Malta and Gozo starting January 15th.
For the first 6 weeks rehearsals will be held twice weekdays and all day Sundays. Weekday rehearsals will be divided between Malta and Gozo. Sunday rehearsals will be in Gozo. Weekday rehearsals will be mainly principles. Sunday rehearsals will be Full Cast and focus on singing and dancing
AUDITION DATES
Audition dates are set for the 17th of August at the Teatru Astra.
In Malta, auditions will be held on the 11th of August at the MPO Rehearsal Space
